RenaissanceRe, a Bermuda-based reinsurer and third-party ILS capital manager, announced that Robin Lang has been appointed permanent Group Chief Risk Officer, succeeding Ian Branagan in that role.
Branagan has been on compassionate leave for some time but will now remain with RenaissanceRe as a senior advisor to the company going forward.
Branagan originally joined RenaissanceRe in 1998, where he opened the Dublin, Ireland branch of the reinsurer and led its risk modeling and client risk intelligence activities.
He moved to Bermuda and most recently London for RenRe, taking on various business class underwriting rights and eventually becoming Group Chief Risk Officer in 2009.
Lang has served as RenaissanceRe’s interim chief risk officer since April 2023, but will now hold the role permanently.
He has been with RenRe since 2001, when he joined the reinsurer as Vice President, Corporate Risk.

As Group Chief Risk Officer, Long will remain based in London with responsibility for global risk management and governance, including external oversight.

As one of the largest third-party managers of reinsurance capital and insurance-linked securities (ILS) strategies, RenaissanceRe’s activities in the space require strong oversight of the interests of its investors and clients, to which Lang will now provide input as Group CRO.
