Priority Bicycles of New York introduces the 600HXT hardtail trail bike, arguably America’s number one. Not only is it equipped with a carbon belt and a Pinion gearbox, but it also features Pinion’s electronic Smart.Shift technology.

The 600HTX is by no means the first model in the Priority series to feature derailleur gears or internally geared hubs for a Gates carbon belt drive and pinion C1.12 gearbox – they are in 600 commuters and 600X Bicycle Packing Machine.

“However, when we developed the 600X, we saw the potential of a true trail mountain bike that would utilize the center weight and all-conditions reliability of a pinion gearbox and Gates carbon drive belt, with a flagship product that prioritized low speed maintenance, said Eddie Meek, the company’s director of product development. “The key to making this happen is a shifting system that can keep up with the dynamic riding of modern mountain bikes, and it comes in the form of Pinion Smart.Shift technology.”

The pinion gearbox is on the bracket and has a choice of 6, 9, 12 or 18 gears. Initially, the German company opted for grip shifting for its platform, but Smart.Shift technology made its European debut last year with the Stromer ST7 e-bike. Priority reports that the 600HTX will be its first non-electric bike in the US.

Thumb shifting paddle shifters on the 174 Hudson MTB handlebars take just 0.2 seconds to change gear, “regardless of conditions and drivetrain load”. The electronic shifting system is powered by an internal battery capable of up to 10,000 shifts per charge and is charged using a cable that plugs directly into the transmission. An indicator light is included to show status, and built-in Bluetooth allows inspections via the companion mobile app.

The 600HXT is available for pre-order starting today for $3,499, rising to $3,999 after the promotion ends.
