Mobility brand Lavoie has capitalized on its McLaren automotive roots to develop the Series 1 premium electric stand-up scooter, which uses a flexible folding mechanism that replaces the familiar stand to navigate city streets with a 900-watt motor and Light up your ride with all-round LED lights.

Back in 2021, the McLaren Group sold its 30-year-old electronics development arm to a private equity firm, and McLaren Applied began operating as an independent company. In order to enter the micro mobile market, a dedicated brand was spun off from the main brand last year.

Lavoie’s first product, a quick-folding premium electric scooter called the Series 1, has just started taking preorders. The first 469 will be Founders Edition models – a number reportedly commemorating the April 1869 date when the first patent was filed for an electric two-wheeler. Each car comes with a numbered plate designed by renowned product design/engineering firm Callum, and early adopters will be rewarded with early access to future product versions and invitations to special private events.

As we’ve mentioned in our previous coverage, the standout feature here is the sleek Flowfold mechanism, which folds the stem at the touch of a button and pulls the front wheel over the long, wide deck to lock into place for Carries 402 x 293 x 904 mm (15.8 x 11.5 x 35.5 inches) between rides. A middle ground is included in the folding action, allowing the Series 1 to park without a stand.

When opened up and ready to ride, Lavoie promises a safe and comfortable experience, with “a higher seat tube angle that provides car-like steering, a freer foot position, and better shock and vibration absorption”—although the company opts to No dedicated suspension is included, meaning uneven terrain can only be absorbed by the chunky air-filled tires.

Two battery configurations are available, each consisting of Samsung 21700 cells. The Max model with a capacity of 702 Wh retails for $2,230 and can travel 60 kilometers (37.3 miles) per charge at an average speed of 20 kilometers per hour (12.4 mph). It comes standard with a 468 Wh battery pack below deck, good for 40 kilometers (25 miles) per charge, and has an MSRP of $1,990.

The custom 650W motor delivers 900W peak output, 30Nm (22lb ft) of torque and a top speed of 40km/h (25mph) in three power modes, one of which allows power/pass matching The mobile app adjusts the speed to match personal preference or local regulations.

The Series 1 models are all constructed of aircraft-grade magnesium and aluminum alloys, feature 10-inch wheels and 2.5-inch reinforced pneumatic tires, and come to a gentle stop with hydraulic disc brakes at the front and KERS (regeneration) at the rear. step back.

Rain or shine, the electric scooter is made possible by an IP56 weatherproof rating for the vehicle itself and an IP57 rating for the electronics. Visibility should never be an issue day or night thanks to the integrated front and twin rear lights (one brake tail light and the other to illuminate the rider) as well as front/side halo lights and turn signals. The TFT display provides turn-by-turn navigation via a Bluetooth mobile app and also has a global LTE/2G subscription.

The Series 1 Max models weigh in at 19.5 kg (43 lbs), the standard models are 1 kg lighter, and either way they’re capable of towing riders up to 120 kg (264.5 lbs).
