While carrying a puppy in the front basket of your bike might seem a little cute, it’s definitely not the safest setup—for the dog or for you. That’s where the Kvisp comes in, as it’s a bike mount designed specifically for dogs.
Kvisp, currently the subject of a Kickstarter campaign, was created by a Dutch startup of the same name. It’s essentially a plastic basket that a puppy can sit in… though it’s much more than that.
The basket portion of the unit consists of a polymer outer shell and an inner liner, which can be removed for cleaning. It can accommodate dogs up to 13.5 kg (30 lbs) wearing the included system-specific harness.
The integrated harness attaches to the front and back of the harness, preventing the dog from jumping or falling off. When these straps detach when they reach their destination, the dog’s leash can be hung on the harness for walking.
The whole thing mounts to a bracket, which in turn clips to the bike’s steerer tube. A quick release mechanism allows the Kvisp to be released from the stand with the click of a button, although an optional combination lock is also available to prevent thieves from stealing it.
Finally, a window in the front of the basket allows e-bike riders to see their handlebar display—unless their dog blocks their view.
Assuming Kvisp goes into production, Pledge $165 You’ll get your choice of gray or green — with a planned retail price of $250. See it in action in the video below.
