The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and the Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions of French-speaking Countries in Sub-Saharan Africa (CREFIAF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration with the Supreme Audit Institutions of French-speaking Africa (SAI).
“We are delighted that CREFIAF is part of our partnership to strengthen the use of French-speaking national safeguard systems,” said Adda Faye, Chief Financial Officer of the Global Fund. “Through the collaborative approach, the two organizations will accelerate their efforts , using the ‘court’ in the Global Fund’s grant guarantee service for mutual benefit. This will effectively promote transparency, accountability and good governance, ultimately benefiting all stakeholders in the Global Fund ecosystem”.
Through this Memorandum of Understanding, the Global Fund and CREFIAF will work together to coordinate and facilitate the exchange of information, experience and knowledge on audit and advisory activities. They will work together to strengthen the relationship between the Global Fund and the SAIs that are members of CREFIAF to improve audit planning.
“This MoU is an important step in our efforts to strengthen our collaboration with the Global Fund and support SAIs in French-speaking Africa,” said Mbah Acha née Fomundam Rose Ngwari, Chair of the CREFIAF Council. “We are committed to working together to build the capacity of SAIs, and contribute to improved governance and accountability.”
The MOU reflects the Global Fund’s objective to strengthen the effectiveness of the external oversight system for public funds. The goal is to manage more Global Fund grants through country financing management systems.
