Canon has announced the first product in its new PowerShot V series. The V10 4K vlogging camera is aimed squarely at mobile YouTube and TikTok creators looking to “elevate their creative content and move up from using a smartphone”.

We’ve certainly seen this kind of thing before, back in 2007 in the form of Pure Digital’s Flip video camera. But as you’d expect, Canon’s compact and lightweight PowerShot V10 is perfect for today’s live-streaming, vlogging content creators.

The 63 x 90 x 34mm (2.5 x 3.5 x 1.3in), 211g (7.5oz) camera is built around a 1in back-illuminated CMOS sensor that is matched to the Digic X image processing engine for 4K Ultra HD (3,840 x 2,160) video at 30 frames or 1080p at 60 frames per second.

There’s a fixed 19mm (equivalent) F2.8-F8 lens on the front with a 97.5-degree field of view for video and 100.2-degree for stills, and it offers ISO125 to 12,800 sensitivities in photo mode and up to ISO3 in 4K, 200 Full HD recording or ISO6,400, and a bunch of cinema filters and three stops of ND filters. The V10 features face-tracking contrast-detection autofocus, frame autofocus for product reviews, 3x digital zoom, and electronic image stabilization.

It can be operated one-handed with the help of a flip-out 2-inch, 460,000-dot touchscreen interface for control, live view and playback, or it can be placed on a flat surface or suspended from a nearby tree branch with the included stand , and there’s also a tripod mount for more setup flexibility.

Built-in stereo microphones allow 16-bit/48 kHz audio to accompany visual content, plus a third party is added to handle background noise suppression. The battery-operated camera also has a 3.5mm jack to plug in an external microphone if needed.

The V10 has no internal storage, but has a microSD media slot and can live stream via the Camera Connect mobile app, and if you’re shooting content at home, the camera can connect to the router via 802.11n Wi-Fi to output video via the app to social media platform. It also has an HDMI micro output and can also be used as a UVC/AUC compliant webcam.

The V10 will be available starting next month in black or silver for around $430. The video below has more.
