
The Bank of Japan unveiled a new design for its largest banknote, the 10,000 yen ($91), on Sept. 1. The character on the banknote is Shibusawa Eiichi, a reformer known as the “father of Japanese capitalism”.
Printing of the banknote is said to have started on the same day and issuance of the new banknote is expected to begin in the first half of 2024 NHK News. On the back of the banknote is an illustration of Tokyo Station.
