Angel investors include Plaid CEO and co-founder Zach Perret, Elad Gil, Naval Ravikant, Opendoor’s Eric Wu, Prasanna Sankaranarayanan, Ramp co-founders Eric Glyman and Karim Atiyeh, and Jack Altman, among others.
The transaction marks Ramp’s first acquisition since buyera “negotiation-as-a-service” platform that claims to save clients money on big purchases, such as annual software contracts. August 2021, the second time since its inception in 2019. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Cohere.io told TechCrunch when it raised money in 2021 that its goal was to improve the remote desktop and screen sharing experience. It claims that with Cohere’s technology, businesses can help customers take instant control of their screens “in seconds” without requiring any downloads or setup on the client side.
This ease of use has earned its product more than 50 paying customers, including TechCrunch Disrupt 2020 WinnerCanix, CopyAI, Ramp, etc. But since then, Cohero.io Shift focus from screen sharing to LLM (Large Language Model) enabled automation. While Cohere’s founders declined to break out hard revenue figures, they said the company’s revenue was up 150 percent year-over-year, and it had more than 200 customers (which also included Rippling, Loom, and SecureFrame) at the time of the acquisition at the end of last month. Ramp itself has over 15,000 customers.
Ramp CEO Glyman told TechCrunch Cohere.io’s approach stands out from other chatbots in the market that require employees to manually define and answer different customer questions to ensure accurate responses.
Said Yunyu Lin: “There are a number of vendors doing some automation work. Historically, many of these have been aimed at simpler use cases, such as e-commerce or simple consumer SaaS, and the total number of questions people can ask answers to is not that many. “
Differentiators for Cohere, Sengotuvelu Said, is its ability to generate content for “even very rare problems” and “complex enterprises with complex products (such as Ramp)”.

“We’ve had other quotes from some players in the space who see great value in generative AI, but we believe much of the value in generative AI will go to companies that have access to that customer data, which Ramp doesn’t company, basically. It’s one of the fastest growing companies in tech, especially in the current macro environment,” Lin said.
For Ramp’s Glyman, it was clear from the start that once his company started using Cohere.io, “all of a sudden, most tickets were answered correctly in an automated fashion.”
“It actually does work,” he said. “The team’s technical sophistication is far beyond anything we’ve seen.”
